CES' New Intern: Evelyn Poitras. Well, this is my first blog and my second day at CES.  CES was initially the acronym for Canadian Eco-tourism Services but has evolved to simply being the name for this organization which offers community development services particularly targeting Indigenous communities.  My first introduction to CES was as an elected Councillor for my band Peepeekisis, Saskatchewan in 2010.  I came across an opportunity to apply for free services related to potential tourism opportunities and this was the beginning of a friendship with Amanda Huculak of CES who eventually came to visit us on Peepeekisis.  Who knew that I would come to be a field placement intern with CES in 2013 as a Master’s student at the University of Winnipeg? La Vida Nica - A Three Week Trip through Nicaragua. I recently got married and had the pleasure of planning my and my new husband's honeymoon. If you know me, you'd know how much I love planning pretty much anything, a wedding, a birthday party, and most especially a trip. This could explain why I love my job as a tourism development consultant so much - it's essentially helping communities and entrepreneurs plan for tourism! Click here for the full story.

All-Inclusive Cuba - Through the eyes of a Tourism Consultant. I recently returned from a week-long stay at an all inclusive resort in Varadero, Cuba.  All-inclusives really aren’t my preference; I’d rather find a small locally owned hotel and explore my surroundings, try to meet the locals, and come home with a real sense of the place I visited. In this case I didn’t have that choice, though the alternative still made for a great getaway.

Spontaneous Tourism Experiences in Brazil. I recently spent two weeks traveling along the coast of Brazil with 6 friends in a motor home. Since working and traveling through Australia, while living in a van, this has been my most favorite way to experience a  country. I find that this mode of travel allows you to experience a community, a city and a country differently and a bit more intimately. It allows you to get closer to the people and their culture, providing opportunities for those exciting, spontaneous experiences of a trip that end up defining your memories.Click here for the full story.
